Vicinity Centres is a leader in retail asset management and was created in June 2015 through the merger of two of Australia’s major retail property groups. Home to approximately 1300 employees, Vicinity is a top 50 ASX listed company. Some of their shopping centres include iconic brands like Chadstone, Emporium, Chatswood Chase Sydney and DFO.
VC were looking to up-level the way their People and Culture team worked to become more employee-centric, agile and collaborative. After the transformative outcomes emerged, the scope of the project grew to include transforming multiple teams across multiple disciplines, building a more engaged and productive workforce across the board.

How might we level up the way Vicinity Centre’s People and Culture team works to become more employee-centric, agile and collaborative?
OUR APPROACH
The approach involved introducing agile and human-centered mindsets and principles at all levels of Vicinity Centres. Instead of a one-size-fits-all framework, customized practices and solutions were developed for each team based on their specific needs. Continuous coaching and embedding supported teams in their transformation journey, covering various aspects such as agile work methods, purpose and vision, lean change management, product and service delivery, work flow visualization, and operational rhythm.
The Results —
Increased collaboration
92% agreed collaboration had improved.
Increase in employee engagement
Employee Engagement went up 5 points, some teams 33 points, after a merger.
Adaptive & agile ways of working
VC is now adaptive, agile and has created an attractive employee value proposition.
In 2018, the organisation also was ranked 19th overall and 1st in Australia in the 2018 Forbe's World's Best Employers list.
